Denver team honors fallen teammate

The Denver NABA begins its season April 3, and the memory of teammate David Kjorvestad will be at the forefront when the Denver Sevens take the field. The team shared its story with Denver League President Joe Collins, and we should all remember their words about the game we all love!
------------
The Denver Sevens is a new team that was put together in honor of a great friend and teammate, David Kjorvestad.
David recently passed away from an auto accident in September of 2010. It was decided by all of us that the team be named after his initials and number. The number 7. He will be greatly missed.
We play not only for the love of the game, but also for him.
If you asked any member of our team about baseball, I'm sure you would get a thousand different answers.
I don't think any person could sum up baseball in one word, one sentence or one paragraph. It's a sport that each of us played as a child and learned that this game can only be won by having fun.
Baseball brings back memories of sleeping with your glove under a pillow, learning why wearing a cup is important, being allowed to steal without being punished, and remembering the feeling after hitting your first home run.
It's the one game that your height isn't an advantage, your size doesn't make a difference, or losing your best player
would determine the outcome of the game.
It cannot be won by running out the clock, using instant replay or measured in inches. It is, however, nine players who all
understand in order to win they need to play as a whole and have fun doing it.
It's knowing that the people you share the diamond with quickly become your brother after just one practice. Baseball is the only sport that begins with a person who yells, "PLAY
ball!"
Simply put ...Baseball for us is a time for fun. No one understood this better than David.
We look forward to having a great season, playing against great competitors and making new friends along the way. Regardless of the outcome, let's all have fun "playing" this
game just as number 7 did!
Sincerely,
The Denver Sevens
