Lights, Camera . . . Action
Sacramento TV station profiles local NABA league tryouts
The NABA is filled with players, teams and leagues that are passionate about baseball. The phrase, For the love of the game applies in every sense to those of us who continue to play every weekend. As we all know, the body might not always be willing, but the spirit never will fade.
The NABA Sacramento league recently had the opportunity to share its message, as a local TV station covered new player tryouts on Feb. 13.
According to Sacramento league president Barry Spiller, 120 players attended tryouts, a 25% increase from previous years. The segment ran during "Good Day Sacramento" as league officials were setting up for tryouts.
"Although a number of people mentioned seeing us (on TV), just as many more saw the ads (for tryouts) in the local papers, saw one of our fliers, and/or got a reminder email if they were on the player's pool," Spiller said. "Through the years we've had as many as 225 (at tryouts) and as few as 50, but we've been averaging 70-80 every year. Maybe it's just a sign the economy is showing some small improvement."
Whatever the reason, it's always good to see NABA news shared in communities. Please make sure to let us know if your league ever is featured in the local media.

PLAY NEXT TO THE PROS
While the Major Leaguers are doing their thing in Phoenix to get ready for the season, NABA players can do the same at the Spring Training Tournament, March 17-20.
Registration still is open, both for players and individuals. Don't have a team? No worries, sign up as a pool player and we will place you on a team.
The final day to register is March 8. Click here for more information, or here to sign up individually. The cost is $235 per player.
In addition to the baseball, one of the highlights of the tournament when you sign up for the Player Package will be a trip to the brand-new Salt River Major League Baseball Complex on Thursday, March 17, to watch the Colorado Rockies vs. the Chicago White Sox. This ticket will give each player access to the Party Zone, where the NABA will have some of the best seats in the house and its own catered party for each participant attending. Come be a part of this fun event!
